January 15-21, 2019
We left Guadaloupe River State Park and made the short journey to
the Travelers World RV Resort. Rarely do we choose to stay at a fancy
resort. The sites are too close together and this one was filled with
“Winter Texans” or snowbirds who wanted the amenities and
activities this resort offered. We wanted full hook-ups and a play
ground to make it easier to entertain a three year-old. The resort
was also a short drive from downtown and we had plans to fill every
day with fun activities in the city.
We picked up our family and deposited Mom and Dad at their hotel
and brought our granddaughter back to the trailer. We started the week with a whole day at the San Antonio Zoo, whose highlights for our
granddaughter were feeding a giraffe and riding the antique carousel.

The next day we toured the excellent children's museum, the
DOseum. Lots of kids, lots of interactive exhibits. She ran from one
exhibit to the next until we all discovered the book room where you
were encouraged to choose a book and have reading time. That took
care of naptime for the day! Her highlight was the outside bubble
blowing courtyard with huge troughs of bubble liquid and huge shapes
to dredge through it and blow very large bubbles.

The following day we found a small Fire Fighting Museum downtown.
Our granddaughter is into anything drive-able and is crazy about fire
trucks, chose this museum over the airplane museum. Her favorite was
the kids area with toys and fire equipment to explore. Then we walked
to the wonderful San Antonio Riverwalk area. Lunch in a riverside
restaurant was followed by a boat ride through downtown on the San
Antonio River. She was thrilled that the people on the Riverwalk
waved back at her as we sailed by!

Our final full day we drove back to the wonderful city park where
we had explored the Zoo and rode on the small scale train that
circumnavigated the park. It was a large park and a surprisingly long
ride. After that we explored the park and she enjoyed a large playground filled with other children playing in the warm Texas sunshine.
Monday, the 21
st, we took a detour through a car wash,
to our granddaughter's delight, and picked up her parents downtown.
We sadly said goodbye to all of them at the airport and drove back to
spend our last night at the resort. The following morning found us on
our way out of San Antonio and heading west. We found a Texas rest
stop to overnight in and left the interstate on the 23
rd
to cross a remote stretch of back roads to get to Alpine, Texas.
