Water Chores

Monday, February 18, 2013

I have to confess that I have forgotten the special quality of late winter/early spring in southern California. We lived in Pasadena, near LA, for over two years and I loved this time of year. The smog was mostly gone, and the air and sun have a unique smell and feel about them. Yesterday it got into the high 50's, but we had all the windows open with a light breeze blowing in, and wore short sleeves and I had bare feet. The sun's warmth is much more intense at this latitude. The sun that is too strong in the summer, is delightfully warming now. The grass is greening up and a few trees are budding.

So what did I do to celebrate this glorious day? Laundry! Well, I walked back and forth to the laundry building and enjoyed the day. It's only been 10 days since the last laundry in Truth or Consequences, but I needed to take advantage of a quiet day and good facilities. So, now we are ready for two more weeks without doing laundry!

Greg took advantage of the hose and free water at our site to wash the rig and the bikes. Bye-bye desert dust! He even took a nap and then found time to wax the hood. Then, since our last shower was our crazy first shower in the RV, we decided to take advantage of the shower here. Oh-no... another pay shower. Twenty-five cents bought you one minute and 30 seconds. The shower was in the unisex bathroom. There was a huge open shower stall, but the coin meter was around the corner from it. Not convenient to plug in another coin if you had soap in your eyes. So, hey, it's a coed shower so why not find Greg and make it truly coed! Tandem showers! We could put coins in for each other. We got our shower stuff, locked the door and had a buddy shower. No details! This is a family blog! Four quarters later we were clean. See, no time for hanky-panky. We're on a budget!

We relaxed the rest of the day and watched the overnighters drive in. We listened to the trains going by. I wish I could say distant trains, but the price was right. We were lulled to sleep by the freeway noise. It's kind of like white noise. Anyway, the park is clean and the residents are quiet. We checked the weather, and Tuesday is to be all rain, so we postponed leaving until Wednesday.

Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm- Here we sit waiting for the forecasted rain and thunderstorms that were to begin at 10 am. Gloomy, gloomy day. We got spoiled by the sunshine really fast! The radar shows a big green blob coming our way. We didn't want to drive in the rain, so we are having another lazy day. Greg is currently streaming The Battle of Britain and yours truly is catching up on the blog. Tacos for dinner, and clear skies tomorrow! We will head for Pinnacles National Park on the way to the coast. Should spend two nights there, unless we really like it, and then will reach the coast around Monterey. I am ready to see the Pacific!
