Pedernales Falls State Park and Guadaloupe River State Park

January 8-14, 2019

We traveled to Pedernales Falls State Park where we had reservations for three nights. It was good to slow down and take in the Texas Hill country. The road through the rural area to get to the park was flooded from recent rains, so we had to ford several streams. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the area and hiked around the falls on the Pedernales River.

Our second day instead of fighting the city traffic in Austin in order to experience one of many microbreweries, we drove a short distance to Johnson City. There we found the Pecan Street Brewery. Their beer was good and their cooking even better. Continuing the theme of pecans, I had a pecan covered fried chicken and we shared a pecan shortbread type of desert. After lunch, since the sun was finally out, we took a drive through the countryside to the town of Dripping Springs. There Greg found a bike shop and was able to get the parts he needed for his fat tire bike.

The campground was booked for the weekend, so we moved closer to San Antonio to Guadaloupe River State Park. Four nights there brought us to the time to relocate to San Antonio. The weather was cold and gloomy. Greg took a guided nature hike Saturday morning and tried to bike ride, but the trails were closed. Too soggy from the recent rains. We chilled for a few days knowing that we would be very busy entertaining a three year-old soon!
