Traveling to Gros Morne National Park

Sunday, July 28, 2013

Quick post to get updated. Way behind. We've been so busy having great experiences that I haven't had time to write! Will update soon. We are currently in Labrador!!!

Sunday morning was still rainy as we headed out of Leading Tickles. We drove south on the peninsula and stopped in Bishop's Falls where we found the public library and parked in front to use the wifi. From there we got back on the Trans-Canada Highway heading west and retraced our drive back towards Deer Lake. The rain cleared as the day wore on and we had sunshine by the time we reached Deer Lake. We found a Foodland grocery and stocked up as best we could. The shelves had big holes in the stock and the produce, what there was of it was in pretty rough shape. We realized that the very stormy weather for several days had probably affected the ferry service and kept the store from being restocked. We filled up on diesel and spent well over $5 a gallon.

Even though it was 5 PM, the sun was still high, so we decided to turn north and drive into Gros Morne National Park. We drove the road through gorgeous mountains that came down to Bonne Bay. Two-thirds of the way through the park and up the west coast we came to Green Point Campground. It had no hook-ups, but did have wifi. It was a small campground and we found a site on a loop of ten sites, overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It didn't have a boil water notice, like the Oceanview Campground in Leading Tickles, but did have rusty colored water. We got it to an acceptable color after running it through the Britta filter. After watching a beautiful sunset, and Greg discovering a unique geological formation nearby, we decided to add a second night there to our stay.
